In These Darkling Times

Quote of the day from Jed Babbin, who was deputy undersecretary of defence in the first Bush administration, on CBC television tonight:

"Going to war without the French is like going deer hunting without an accordion. You get to leave a lot of useless and noisy luggage behind."

"A proof is a proof. What kind of a proof? It's a proof. A proof is a proof. And when you have a good proof, it's because it's proven."

Canada's Prime Moron, Jean Chrétien, on CBC news Sept 6/02, commenting on the nature of evidence that UN inspectors turn up in Iraq. At least that's our best interpretation.

"The best positive thing you can do is not to tell them to stop on both sides to fight and to go back to talk is the only way out of that. And it's what I said and I said that."

-- Saturday Night, p.18, May 2002

A Zen-like uttering from Jean Chrétien (sigh) commenting on something or other. The Middle East "peace" process, we think.
