Inside Baseball

I actually did a double-take when I ran across this headline at Bloomberg.com:

Specter Urges Delay in Replacement of O'Connor at Supreme Court

I could explain why it struck me as funny, but then you would be laughing at me, not with me.

Shabbadoo:

you thought he meant Tom didn't you?

Jess:

I thought Tom, too! But what is really confusing is why Specter suddenly wants a delay after urging Bush to announce her replacement now, rather than after Roberts' vote. Perhaps he actually realizes the impact doing so would have on Roberts' confirmation.

It truly was my first thought, until I realized that DeLay isn't a lawyer (that's no barrier to being appointed as a judge either in the States or Canada, though it doesn't seem to happen very often, if at all).

Second: Arlen Specter? C'mon.

Still, it would have been fun. The Democratic Underground would have gone into full meltdown mode, and C-SPAN could have televised the hearings on a pay-per-view basis.
