I guess as a service to Canada Council-funded artists struggling to complete their illustrated novels, the department of Library and Archives Canada maintains a page of literary sound effects:
Cries of pain, suffering, terror, rage, fear etc.: AAAA, AAAAA, AAAAAAA, AAAAAAAAA, AAAAAAAAGHHH, AAAAAAAAHHHHHHH, AAAAGGHH, AAAAGH, AAAAHH, AAAARRRRGH, AAAARRRR, AAAG, AAAGG, AAAGGGH, AAAGGGK, AAAGGK, AAAIIEEE, AAAKHH, AAARGHHH, AAIIEEEE, AAIIIEEEEE, AARGH, AARRGH, ARRHH, ARRGGGGG, AARRRRR, AGGAAAAAAA, AGHA, AGHH, AGHHH, AGHHHHHH, AGK, AHH, AHHH, AHHHHHGH, AIEGHH, AKKK, AKKKK, ARGGH, ARRGHH, ARRGHHH, ARRHH, ARRRRRR, EEE-EE-EE, EEEYOWW, EEYAAA, EEYAGH, EEYARGH, EEYARGX, GAA, GARR, GRAAH, HNNNGNN, KHAKK, OOFPH, OW, OWW, OWWW, OWWWW, UGKH, UNNHH, UNNNGHH, UNNNH, UUUUURP, UUUUUUUUUUUUNNN, YAA, YAAA, YAAAAA, YAAAAAAGH, YAAG, YAGGGGHHHHHHHH, YEE-OUCH, YEEAAGK, YEEARGH, YEEEAAAHR, YEEEARGH, YEEOOW, YEOW, YOW, YYYAAHHAAAGGHH, YYYYCrying sounds: OOOOOO, SOB: see Cries Moaning Wailing
This section was collected by bugging an H&R Block office the evening of April 29.

As the link clearly shows, Library and Archives Canada does NOT maintain a page of literary sound effects.
From the Archives Electronic Collections Page:
Depositing to the Electronic Collection:
To "archive" an online publication means to provide an electronic copy of the publication to the Electronic Collection so that Library and Archives Canada (LAC) can store, provide long-term access to, and preserve the intellectual content of the publication on a permanent basis.
Publishers who deposit online publications with Library and Archives Canada for archiving assure the integrity and authenticity of their online publications for future generations.
To deposit your websites, electronic monographs or electronic serials that are accessible online, please send an e-mail message to epe@lac-bac.gc.ca, indicating the URL, title, publisher's name, e-mail address and any other relevant information.
Those damned corrupt archivers. Their using taxpayers dollars to ARCHIVE things. I hear the librarians have rooms and rooms filled with nothing but books too.
Bastards.

main·tain (mān-tān') pronunciation
tr.v., -tained, -tain·ing, -tains.
1. To keep up or carry on; continue: maintain good relations.
2. To keep in an existing state; preserve or retain . . .
Sounds to me that they are maintaining said page, presumably unto eternity. On government computers, on the taxpayer's dime.
Good to know. I think I'll start dumping the contents of my hard drive there every couple of weeks and they can "maintain" that, too. Beats buying backup DVDs and I think my collection of rare albino porn has at least as much archival value to the nation as comic-book onomatopoeia.

Well, call me crazy, but I'm going to leave the archiving in the hands of, oh I don't know, let's say professional archivers.
But maybe you have a point. Maybe we should set up a taxpayers protection committee to vet everything the Archives of Canada decides to archive. And we could have another committee to vet every book that the Library of Canada decides to purchase.
God forbid we should let experts in their fields determine how to do their jobs.
I swear, if the Liberals don't spend us to death first the Conservatives will surely nickel and dime us to death.

Jeez, chill out buddy. All gnotalex did was point out something stoopid our government is doing. And it is stoopid, no matter which way you slice it. But you treat it as an attack on all civil servants by 'conservatives', whoever they are. What, are you a representative of the International Brotherhood of Government Data Storage Technicians?
gnotalex has had a tough week. He's been attacked by some numbskull from the Democrats and now this. Please lay off. Frankly, I don't know how much more he can take.
