LETHBRIDGE, AL—During a performance of the 1949 Rogers and Hammerstein classic, ‘South Pacific,’ at the Belmont Community Center last Saturday, audience members reported that they were utterly unable to suspend their disbelief and transport themselves to a tropical island during the Second World War. Casting, the plot and “the ill-fitting coconut bra featured in Act 2” were all cited by the audience as key stumbling blocks.
“I paid $25 to watch a middle-aged Albertan lady pretend to fend off the overtures of my old math teacher,” said Jim Todgens, shaking his head. “With the added bonus of seeing my pharmacist prancing around as a slutty Tonkinese madam.”

That audience is waay to critical. I go to local community theatre and, while I don't personally 'know' the actors, I'm certainly recognizing the same faces from performance to performance. Also was part of community theatre many years ago when the leads each year were the same two people; the shows were still very popular and lots of fun to be a part of.
